SILVIYA TOMOVA
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE BALLET AT STATE OPERA STARA ZAGORA
She is a disciple of the famous elite State Ballet Academy “A. Y. Vaganova” in Saint Petersburg. Her successful creative career is connected to the National Opera and Ballet,where she is Prima ballerina and has over 90 performed leading roles in classical and modern ballet titles. Emblematic are her performances of Odete – Odyll in “Swan Lake”, Mirta in “Giselle”, Marguerite Gautier in “The Lady with the Camellias”, Demna in “The Fiery Dancer”, Elina from “The Goat’s Horn”, Esmeralda from “Notre Dame De Paris”, Polly from “Boomerang” and others.
She has participated in different television and film productions. She is laureate of the International Ballet Competitions in Varna, Osaka, Paris, and Moscow. Numerous times she has been invited to be member of the jury of international ballet competitions in Dobrich, Paris, Luxemburg, Varna, and Perm.
Since 1996 she is Head of the National Committee for Dance Art – Bulgaria to UNESCO. As early as a Prima Ballerina of the Sofia Opera and Ballet, she actively is involved in a pedagogical activity – she teaches in the National School for Dance Art, in NATFIS, New Bulgarian University. From 2003 to 2007 she is Artistic Director of the National Ballet. Since 2005 she is Executive Director of the Bulgarian Ballet Association. In the period 2009-2010 she is Artistic Director of the Plovdiv Opera. Silviya Tomova is author and choreographer of the ballet spectacles “Romeo and Juliet” and “Flight to the Light” /2014/, the ballet canvases in the spectacle of the opera “Carmen” /2014/, the music-dance “Requiem” of Mozart 2015, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” -2015, “Dance at Sunrise”- 2019, “Yan Bibiyan” -2020 and others. In the period September-October 2016 she stages the ballet “Giselle” in Pristina Kosovo, where she is often a guest-choreographer.
Since September 2013 to October 2016 she leads the ballet troupe of the Ruse State Opera, and since November 2016 she is artistic director of the Ballet of the Stara Zagora State Opera. In 2017 she was awarded the Special Prize of the Mayor of Stara Zagora, Zhivko Todorov, for her exceptional contribution to the development of the ballet art and culture in Stara Zagora. In November 2017 she receives a prize for her overall contribution to the world dance art as a ballerina, choreographer and pedagogue, artistic director of an international ballet troupe from the Foundation “FINI DANCE” – New York – organizer of the “TIRANA DANCE FESTIVAL” 2017. In 2018 she was awarded the sign of honor “Golden Age” –for significant contribution to the development of the Bulgarian Culture and National Identity. In 2020 she receives the Stara Zagora Prize, in 2022 she receives the annual award “Golden Feather” of “Cantus Firmus” and gallery “Makta” in partnership with Classic FM Radio for contribution to the Bulgarian culture, as well as the prestigious award “Golden Lira” of UBMD for contribution to Bulgarian Culture and World Ballet Art and on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of her remarkable creative activity.
